Various skincare products arranged on a snowy background. Items include Soonjung cream, Real Barrier Extreme Cream, and La Roche-Posay bottles.

If you live in a cold climate many of you will understand all too well that with winter comes drier, more easily irritated skin. Between the bitter cold and the furnace kicking on more frequently, many people notice significant changes in their skin. You may find that the moisturizers that work great for the rest of the year just don't feel like they're moisturizing enough in the winter months. In this blog I will go over a selection of my very favorite soothing moisturizers that keep my skin calm and hydrated once the weather turns cold.

  1. Etude House Soonjung 10-free Moist Emulsion & 2x Barrier Intensive Cream

Two white skincare tubes labeled "Soonjung" on a snowy background, featuring blue text and a clean, minimal design.

The entire Soonjung line from Etude House is incredible, but for soothing dry, irritated skin, the emulsion and cream really stand out to me. Formulated with barrier friendly ingredients like panthenol and madecassoside, both do a great job at calming irritation. The emulsion contains squalane and is significantly more lightweight than the cream. If you have extra oily skin or prefer wearing lighter moisturizers during the day, using the emulsion on its own is a nice option. The cream contains shea butter and is a lot heavier as well as more moisturizing. My favorite way to use these two is emulsion first, followed by the cream.

  1. Realbarrier Extreme Cream Original & Light

Two jars of Real Barrier Extreme Cream, labeled "Light" and "Original," on a snowy surface. Silver and white lids, minimal design.

Realbarrier's Extreme Cream formulas are packed full of barrier-friendly ingredients like hyaluronic acid, panthenol and allantoin. The Original version is much heavier compared to the light version, and has a very thick, nourishing texture. The Light version has a considerably thinner consistency, and is a great option if you still want the benefits of the Original Extreme Cream but dislike the feeling of a heavier moisturizer. I personally prefer to use the Light version during the day since I don't like using heavy products under makeup. At night, when my skin tends to get extra dry, the thicker texture of the Original cream makes it a great option for a night cream. It's worth mentioning that these do have a bit of a herbal scent due to the addition of an essential oil blend, so if you dislike fragranced skincare, you may want to skip them.

  1. Dr. Althea 147 Barrier Cream

A white tube of Dr. Althea 345 Relief Cream on snow. Text includes "for all skin types" and "50ml." Calm and soothing ambiance.

The 147 Barrier Cream is a newer addition to my collection, but one I immediately fell in love with! Infused with azulene, ceramides and beta-glucan, this cream provides great barrier support. It has a soothing gel texture and feels pretty light on my skin, yet leaves my skin deeply moisturized, hydrated and calm. I can't recommend this gem from Dr. Althea enough!

  1. Dr.G R.E.D Blemish Clear Soothing Cream

A jar of Dr.G R.E.D Blemish Clear Soothing Cream on a snowy background. The jar is white with red and green text.

Despite the name, the Clear Soothing Cream doesn't actually have any acne-fighting ingredients, but is actually meant to calm blemishes instead. It contains a soothing complex of 5 different cica ingredients, panthenol and beta-glucan, as well as niacinamide for a bit of brightening. One of my favorite things about this moisturizer is the light gel texture. It feels soothing and cooling upon contact, leaving my skin very hydrated and moisturized without any heaviness. This cream definitely deserves its viral status!

  1. La Roche Posay Toleriane Dermallergo Fluide & Creme

Two La Roche-Posay Toleriane Dermallergo products on snow. White bottles with blue accents, labeled Fluid and Creme. Calm, pristine setting.

I decided to add both of these, because like the other duos on this list, they have a similar effect on my skin but have textural differences that could be better suited for different skin types. Formulated with shea butter and squalane, these are both deeply moisturizing and ideal for dry, dehydrated skin. Red sage extract and sphingomonas ferment extract reduce redness, soothe and provide barrier support. I find the Creme is better suited for my skin, as it's very light and absorbs very well. The Fluide feels a bit heavier and leaves a slight tackiness on my skin, so I tend to use that one at night. Both are great though, and calm my skin down very quickly.
